Teleology, always. The Unimaginable. USA, USA.

BBC:

„In just three short years, we have shattered the mentality of American decline and we have rejected the downsizing of America’s destiny.

„We are moving forward at a pace that was unimaginable just a short time ago, and we are never going back!“

Mr Trump repeatedly swiped at Democrats, including left-wing candidates such as Bernie Sanders who are vying to challenge him for the presidency.

„We will never let socialism destroy American healthcare!“ said the president…

„The American Age, the American Epic, the American Adventure, has only just begun.“

I find myself musing about two concepts here: the unimaginable, and the never going back. Words like unimaginable, unbelievable, inconceivable, seem less and less useful as indications of probability. If a society looses itself from bonds of minimal coherence with empirical reality can it conceive of a back to return to? Can it understand that it has journeyed from that back? If it ravages its ability to think critically how available in fact are common referents for terms like journey? I wonder if there becomes only the chaotic now.
