Over the last couple years I’ve periodically experienced a very real, physical wave of relief at being out of northern California. Recommendations can so easily be self-maiming: „I know of no better…“ can be read as an apology, a confession, just as „I can’t think of any other reason…“ can be seen as the admission of a failure of imagination.
