Veterans‘ Day

Cold, windy, rainy in the Netherlands today; not a national holiday. Two years ago in answer to my question an amused German friend gently teased „Do you think? A holiday to celebrate our defeat?“

In the US, where the words „empire“, „imperialism“, „capitalism“, „illegal war of aggression“ receive at best rolls of the eyes, a president who celebrated rapist mercenaries as „the moral equivalent of our founding fathers“ (true, perhaps?) has an airport named after him, there are free meals for warriors who subdued Fallujah, Panama City and Grenada.
